Gavin & Stacey Star Categorically Rules Out Strictly Come Dancing Appearance
The Welsh performer acknowledges the dancers' remarkable abilities while maintaining an unwavering position on participation
Ruth Jones, the celebrated performer and creative force behind Gavin & Stacey, has made it abundantly clear that no financial incentive would persuade her to join the cast of Strictly Come Dancing.
The 59-year-old Welsh talent, renowned for bringing Nessa Jenkins to life, delivered an emphatic rejection of any potential involvement with the BBC's flagship ballroom competition.
During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Jones praised the programme's participants while drawing a firm line. "I've been and watched Strictly and it is amazing what people do," she noted. "But it is absolutely not for me. They would have to pay me an absolutely ridiculous amount of money – there isn't a figure."
The actress also disclosed that producers had approached her regarding Celebrity Traitors, another popular BBC reality format.
While she appreciates the show as a viewer, Jones has no interest in becoming a contestant. "There was a big rumour about me doing it as well," she confirmed.

"The thing is I had sort of been asked about doing it and I love the show and I think it's amazing, but then I thought I'll have to put on a wet suit and I'll have to go in one of them lochs, I'll get bitten by the midges. I'd rather sit in my pyjamas and watch everyone else."
Jones, who secured a 2025 Bafta for best female performance in a comedy for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale, also addressed a distinctive creative choice from the series. Throughout the show's run, her character Nessa and Smithy, portrayed by James Corden, never shared an on-screen kiss despite their eventual engagement in the Christmas special.
The decision stemmed from the actors' off-screen dynamic. "James Corden and I couldn't bear the thought of kissing each other, so that was kind of written into the script. We're like brother and sister, so it would've been strange."
The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday at 10pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
