The greatest of all time still believes he could suit up and be a starter in the NFL if he wanted.
Tom Brady, the seven-time champion and now NFL commentator/minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, spoke to Colin Cowherd on Thursday to discuss the unretirement of Philip Rivers.
Rivers, 44, is one year younger than Brady when he last played in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a string of injuries to the Colts' depth chart, particularly losing starter Daniel Jones for the year, they called on their former quarterback from 2020 to come out of retirement, even though he hadn’t played in almost five years.
Brady and Rivers were longtime AFC rivals through the 2000s and early 2010s, as the former was generally the final boss the now-Colts quarterback could never beat while with the Chargers.
Even now, Brady, who is 48 and happy in his role in the Fox booth, believes that he could command the field and take on Rivers if he had the chance.

"Yes, I certainly could," Brady answered Cowherd when asked if he could help a team win games in the NFL. “... [But] I’m not allowed to anymore because I’m a minority owner of the Raiders, so I can’t unretire."
Brady, who has grown in influence within the Raiders organization over the past year, had already had to discuss his involvement as a commentator with the league. To unretire and step back on the field, the only avenue seems to be actually playing quarterback for Las Vegas.
And with how the 2-11 Raiders are going with Geno Smith injured, a 48-year-old Tom Brady does not seem like the worst option they could go with this Sunday when they travel to Philadelphia to play the Eagles.
