By Andrew McCartyShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberJust over 24 hours ago, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel announced head coach Sherrone Moore was fired for cause following an inappropriate relationship with an unnamed staff member.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” a statement from Manuel read.
Michigan allegedly learned of the relationship earlier this fall, but did not find credible evidence of wrongdoing. However, more "overwhelming" information came forward on Wednesday which ultimately led the Wolverines to part ways with the head coach.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, the Michigan board and university officials reportedly held a call relating to the Sherrone Moore situation, according to college football insider Ross Dellenger. Earlier reports suggested Manuel's tenure with the school could be ending during the call, but Dellenger refuted those reports.
"Despite reports to the contrary, Warde Manuel remains the athletic director as the school begins a search for its next coach," Dellenger reported.
Manuel appears to have saved his job despite seeing a significant cheating scandal under former head coach Jim Harbaugh and the abrupt firing of Moore.
